DIVINA
DIVINA
A modern-retelling of The Divine Comedy, told through dance in five acts / two nights.

At its very essence Divina is a love story. It is the story of two people, torn apart by tragedy and with the persistance of undying love, man chases woman to hell and back.
INTRODUCTION:
(ACT I.i) We first meet our hero, Dante (a writer) and his muse, Beatrice (a dancer), at the peak of their career. We see them in their home going about their business. From the opposite side of the stage we see a man enter the apartment. This man is never introduced to us, but it is obvious he has a history with Beatrice. A fight to control Beatrice breaks out between Dante and the man. Not ending until the unknown man pulls out a gun and takes Beatrice's life in the midst of their lovers quarrel.
With the death of Beatrice, we see Dante spiral out of control. We see him stray from his life's path and thus begins his journey into the depths of hell.
(Act I.ii) Dante is in a busy place, perhaps a party. We watch him as he notices a beautiful, but dangerous looking woman. As if in slow motion the women in the room lift off the ground and hit the wall, remaining there as if frozen. With everyone pushed against the walls, except the beautiful woman, Dante is free to follow her.
Convinced she is Beatrice, he follows her directly into hell, and begins his quest to find his one true love.
